The toddler and the kitten
came face to face one day
Hello said she
Meow said he
And each sat down to play
Where shall we go
To catch a mouse
What shall we do
Play in my doll house
Itโs time for our tea
Iโll have fish
Itโs time for a bath
A splash
And a splish
What now said he
for we seem to be
incompatibly
bound
I know said she
I see two beds
for you and me
to lay our heads

I decided to answer with poetry as this is what we’re learning in our creative writing course at the moment. The prompt seemed to lend itself to being a poem, so thank you, Chaos Mandy! I know it’s a bit clunky in places – I’m on a big learning curve!
For the IndieInk Writing Challenge this week, Chaos Mandy challenged me with “The toddler and the kitten” and I challenged lisa with “Try your best”

This was adorable. My daughter loves poetry, and she will love it when we read it together later. I can totally see the todder stuffing a trusting, tolerant kitten into the high chair for tea
I *love* that you took a risk and tried something different. This just made my day. You just defined what the challenge is supposed to be! It’s *supposed* to be difficult and creative and fun and this was just that. You = awesome. Thank you for taking a chance.
Awww, I love this!
Thanks very much for all the great comments.
We have to come up with a poem for our course tutorial that has the same rhyme pattern and match the rhythm of an example poem we were given. I think we’re also supposed to be dealing with imagery and metaphor so at the moment poetry to me is like looking up a huge mountain I have to somehow reach at least base camp on. Learning beats and stresses is above base camp for me and writing in metaphor must be somewhere near the top of the mountain. We’ll see how far I climb…
This is so sweet. I love the bouncy nature of the poem, a perfect match to the bouncy nature of kittens and toddlers.
I feel your pain about poetry. It’s not something I can do easily. Well done!
This was fun to read – Such a perfect topic, children and kittens. I love their incompatabilities and their resolution at the end.
I really love this, especially the beginning – great job!
